Shelley Robinson - Shropshire Enterprise Coordinator
I have worked in careers guidance for many years, having started out in Calderdale & Kirklees in West Yorkshire before moving to Connexions Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin in 2003, which became Shropshire Youth in 2007. I appreciate the pressures that schools and colleges are under to deliver both an academic curriculum and prepare young people for the world of work. My work as a Careers Adviser, meanwhile, showed me just how important it is for young people to not only receive personalised guidance, but also have access to a range of experiences and encounters with the world of work. My current role is to support Shropshire secondary schools and colleges to improve their careers guidance and employer engagement programmes.
Shelley Robinson - Shropshire Enterprise Coordinator
I wouldn’t be able to achieve any of this without the help of over 20 wonderful volunteer Enterprise Advisers, who come from senior roles in business and who are matched to each secondary school and college to advise on their Careers Guidance Strategy from a business point of view and to open up their network of business contacts to the school/college.
Camille Mortimer - Shropshire Careers & Enterprise Co-ordinator
I have a diverse background around careers - including delivering CEIAG for a FE/HE College in Northamptonshire; providing employment coaching and careers advice on a Shaw Trust program in the West Midlands; and engaging with employer networks, parents/carers, NEET young people, disability and employment forums.
Camille Mortimer - Shropshire Careers & Enterprise Co-ordinator
I have supported many schools and colleges, collaborating on PHSE sessions, enterprise activities, community networking/events and careers fairs, through knowledge-sharing, delivering talks and interactive activities. I understand some of the pressures that schools and colleges are under to deliver academic curriculum and a quality careers provision.
Camille Mortimer - Shropshire Careers & Enterprise Co-ordinator
I have worked with children, young people and adults to develop life skills and employability skills, and to provide careers information, advice and guidance. My work with adults has made me realise how important it is to really invest in our young people, to provide a range of meaningful encounters with work sectors/employers to enable them to make independent and informed choices for them to exceed in life and their future career.
Camille Mortimer - Shropshire Careers & Enterprise Co-ordinator
My current role is to support secondary schools in Shropshire to improve their careers guidance and employer engagement programmes to meet the Gatsby Benchmarks and to increase opportunities for their pupils.
Shropshire & Telford & Wrekin Councils work in partnership with ‘The Careers & Enterprise Company’, a government supported / employer led organisation, to provide each Local Authority with an Enterprise Coordinator. These Enterprise Coordinators work with local secondary schools and colleges, to support them in meeting the eight Gatsby Benchmarks. Enterprise Coordinators work closely with school and college Careers Leaders, to find them a suitable Enterprise Adviser (an experienced business volunteer from industry) who will advise on their Careers Strategy to help build gold standard Careers Guidance Programmes that prepare our young people for the world of work.
The role of the Enterprise Coordinator is to link employers, local industries, Apprenticeship and Training Providers, Further and Higher Education Providers with our young people; To provide first hand experiences of the world of work and develop employability skills. This ensures that our young people receive an inclusive, diverse and up to date Careers Programme, building on the employability skills and knowledge of career pathways necessary for them to be well informed and confident when making decisions about their future and entering the world of work.
