Support for SEND
Telford and Wrekin
FutureFocus have a team of dedicated Careers Advisers who are all experienced in working with young people with SEND. Advisers have a key role in supporting young people, parent/carers to explore post 16 education, employment and training options. They also support young people to plan and make successful transitions from their current placement into their next.
During years 9 to 11, Careers Advisers will complete a Careers and Transition Report which is a document that reflects the young person’s views and aspirations and how they might achieve them. The Careers and Transition Report will work towards looking at education and/or employment pathways - exploring different education, training and employment options. There are careers guidance discussions during years 9, 10 and 11, with each having a specific focus as shown below:
Year 9
In Year 9, the focus is to help young people explore their aspirations and how different post-16 education options can help them to achieve them. FutureFocus’ role is to start the Careers and Transition report which documents the career guidance provided and transitional support required from school.
Year 10
In Year 10, the focus is around supporting the young person and their family to explore more specific courses or places to study, (for example, through taster days and visits), so that they are able to draw up personalised, provisional plans. FutureFocus will update the Careers and Transition report which documents the careers guidance provided and transitional support required from school.
Year 11
In Year 11, the focus is around supporting the young person and their family to firm up their plans for their post-16 options and familiarise themselves with the expected new placement. This will include contingency planning, with the young person and their family knowing what to do if plans change (this could be due to exam results). FutureFocus will update the Careers and Transition report which documents the careers guidance provided and transitional support required from school.
